Last Argument of Kings Overview:

Logen Ninefingers might only have one more fight in him — but it’s going to be a big one; Superior Glokta is fighting a different kind of war, a secret struggle in which no one is safe, and no one can be trusted; and Jezal dan Luthar has turned his back on soldiering for a simple life with the woman he loves. The king of the Union lies on his deathbed, the peasants revolt, and the nobles scramble to steal his crown. No one believes that the shadow of war is about to fall across the heart of the Union. Only the First of the Magi can save the world, but there are risks. There is no risk more terrible than to break the First Law.

Last Argument of Kings Audiobook Review:

STORY

STORY

I’ve got to be honest. I’m incredibly jealous of all those who haven’t listened to this book yet. You’re in for one hell of a ride. Abercrombie brings out plot twist after plot twist. Just when you think it can’t get any better he whips out a mad hillman who is obsessed with the moon. It’s difficult to explain why I loved it so much without giving away too much of the story

In a word, everyone is awful.  The character you thought was going to save everything turns out to be the darkest, most evil bastard of them all. The Bloody Nine’s appearance are becoming more and more frequent and we soon come to understand why Logen is so despised (although I still do like him). The last book is the culmination of everything Abercrombie spent so long building in the first book and shows his complete and utter brilliance.

The loose ends are tied, not neatly and definitely not in a nice bow. I applaud Abercrombie for creating an ending that is simultaneously epic, memorable and ambiguous. The only negative thing I have to say about this series is that it’s ruined fantasy for me. I haven’t been able to find another series as good as this trilogy. I wish there were more. But it’s unlikely. You’ve got to be realistic after all.
