How to get discount audio books!

By Tyler,

Ever wonder if there were cheaper options available? Need to know how to buy audio books cheap? This option allows you to gain audio for kindle books at much lower price using the kindle App on any device – and it’s easy!

What is Whispersync?

The kindle books whispersync ability is a useful addition to the Kindle App. The Kindle app is available on many devices and operating systems. Using the app you can switch between reading and listening to your Kindle books.

Just pop in your headphones, tap the button, and keep the story going. In the car, in the gym, in the kitchen, or wherever your day takes you. Whenever your eyes are occupied but your mind is free, your story is ready for listening.

How do you get the Discount?

  1. Get the KindlApp (you do not need a kindle for this!)
  2. Login/ Create an Amazon account.
  3. Look for the book you are after on the Kindle Store e.g. The Martian’ for $6.95.  If this book has ‘Get the Audiobook for the reduced price of $2.99 after you buy the Kindle book’ (Sometimes this is a button underneath the purchase link), you have just shaved over $15 off your purchase and got your self a cheap audiobook! This is utilising the whispersync part of Kindle.
  4. Profit.

Here’s a handy tool to see if you have any kindle books with matching narration.

Also, here’s a list with some popular audiobooks that are cheaper with this method!

Haven’t used Kindle books at all. I have bought some books from Google Play that worked well on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 tablet. Will the kindle books work on that?
What is the difference between reading on Kindle compared to Google Play Books or another Android reader? Do they load well? Is there any lag?
Why do you like audio books ahead of general reading?
Love to know the answers to those questions.
    Thank you,
    Duncan

Hi Duncan, thanks for dropping by,

      Thanks for the comment.

      1. The Kindlebook app will definitely work on your tablet, the link is here.

      2. I don’t use the app to specifically read, as I use it for the ‘Whispersync’ ability – so that to me is the real advantage/ difference – getting it cheaper and having the ability to gain the narrations. It also means that as you accrue books in your library, at anyone time, you could decide you want to listen to them – and at this point you would get a discount!

In regards to performance, there is no lag – it is very efficient little app, opens quickly, and it remembers everything – i haven’t lost my spot yet haha – I use it on my Samsung S5 Android Phone and have never had any issues. I can’t compare to the google app though as i haven’t used it.

      3. I love listening to Audiobooks, there are too many reasons why, so i’ll limit myself to the main ones.

I am quite a busy person, in addition to running this website now, i work long hours as chartered accountant. Sometimes I have some mundane task to perform – data entry stuff – this is when i listen. It allows me to multi task, but also get in some culture (or battle scenes). They are also great on the ride on lawn mower, doing house work and long car rides haha.

Also, i find the narrators can just bring the book to life in a way that it’s hard to imagine. Listen to your favourite book – you’ll never look back. I think of Stephen Fry narrating the Harry Potter series (I love it, even though i started listening as an adult).

I hope i answered, please feel free to ask more!

I have been doing some recent reading on the audiobooks. I am rather new to this concept. Honestly its only because I ran into your site earlier tonight and have been reading through more of your website.

Right off the bat I learned you don’t need a kindle to use the kindle app (I would have avoided that app because I don’t have a kindle)

Anyway’s, if I’m understanding you have to buy the kindle book and then you can buy the audio book and the low price? If this is the case, I’m buying a kindle book that I don’t need.

I must be missunderstanding something. Can you help me?

      Hi Debra,

Look at it this way –

The Martian to buy on Audible with out a membership out right is $26.95.

An Audible membership is 14.95 (per month), and you get 1 Credit per month, which equates to one book – so that means it would cost $14.95 – which is cheaper… but…

The Kindle version ($6.95), plus the Audible narration added ($2.99) comes to $9.94! So, instead of looking at it like, ‘i bought a kindle version i don’t need’, you can look at it as though you got a free kindle book with your Audiobook!

Also, you have the option to read if you choose!

There’s a simple formula. $14.95 – Kindle Version + $2.99, if the answer is positive, you’ve got your self a deal!

The only way to get it cheaper is buy signing up to the Audible app, and using your first free credit on the Audiobook.

I hope this answered your question,

      Warm regards,

      Ty

Wow. It is a great article and also a big thank you for sharing this information. I like to read books since young but lately I am very busy at work as I get promoted to a higher position. Now, I listen to audio books when I have some free time. It is a lot cheaper then Audible where you’ll need around $15 a month for 1 book.

I have heard of Whispersync but I need to check into further. I enjoy reading and listening to all kinds of audio books. I am also writing content that will be hopefully published. I hear some of the new technologically advanced devices such as Whispersync for Voice does not give authors control over the prices, so an author can spend double on production costs what that make in sales from their audiobooks.

    Hi,
Thanks for the information. I always thought Kindle books, you have to have a kindle. Learn something new everyday.
The next time I want to purchase a book or audiobook, I will definitely check it out. Now, are the books and audio books compatible to all mobile devices?
    Thanks again,
    Sofia
